Buying London Review — It’s Awful

London is beautiful, the show is not

Not actually a photo from the show, it’s just London looking lovely

We generally don’t have bad reviews on this site, as we’re so time poor that we tend to only watch shows that we think we’re going to like. Perhaps not the best approach for a review site, but that’s life! We however didn’t have that problem with Buying London, a new reality show on Netlix, all about a real estate agents who deal in “super prime” properties — i.e. very expensive gaffs. How do we put this delicately? This show is absolutely awful.

We started watching it as it was about selling fancy houses in London — and we just happen to love fancy houses and London! London is a remarkable city, massive, beautiful, full of interesting houses, parks, museums, streets, people, bridges, history and so much more. It’s a city you can wander around for days, discovering new things and places, and we love visiting. We also love houses — I mean, who doesn’t? However — we didn’t realise that Buying London is basically just a really bad “reality” show, more about the trivial dramas between the beautiful agents in the company. We say “reality” in quotes, because all the drama looks manufactured, is boring, and maybe is there to distract from the fact that they don’t seem to ever sell any houses! We gave up watching after 3 episodes, so we apologise if they go on a selling spree in the remaining episodes.

Just another pic of London for your pleasure

Is there anything to like about the show? London itself looks amazing — lots of impressive drone shots — and the houses on show aswell are just gorgeous. Completely over-the-top expensive, but fabulous to look at. By the second episode we’d started fast-forwarding through any of the “drama” bits — i.e. when they producers got the female agents to argue amongst themselves on camera for our benefit — to the house bits, which is what appealed to us in the first place. Kind of like in Lord of the Rings Part 3, we find ourselves fast-forwarding through all the Gollum bits, we just want to see Gondor.

In summary — avoid. It’s a show so bad that we actually didn’t even bother showing the official press images — we thought you, our valued readers, would benefit more from some nice pics of London that we took ourselves instead.
