Still the Only Show My Teenagers Want to Watch With Me
Only Murders in The Building Series 3
We’ve just watched the first two episodes of Series 3 of Only Murders in the Building and it didn’t disappoint. Mild SPOILERS follow but nothing too bad.
OMITB is pretty much the only show that my teenagers want to watch with me — usually they pause whatever they’re watching if I appear and have no interest in most of the things I watch. Take Selena Gomez however and add her to Martin Short and Steve Martin and you’ve a Parent & Teenager mix for the gods! It helps that the show is funny, with a healthy does of whodunnit, with episodes that are just short enough to keep holding interest.
One of the teenagers says that Gomez is probably one of her top 5 people, “like in the world”, and for some context, I don’t think I’ve even made that list. Martin Short is also a favourite, his over the top (when is he never over the top?) theatre director just as good as in previous series. This year we actually get to see him direct, and it’s still a nuanced performance like with most of the characters theoughout the run of the show. Yes, he can be flamboyant and silly, but also can portray the quiet serious moments just perfectly.
Paul Rudd AKA Antman AKA Girl Cop’s Friend (it’ll make sense when you see it) is a new addition to the series, whom the teenagers know from Marvel, Meryl Streep who they know from Mama Mia is of course amazing, and you should have heard the yelp of recognition when Jesse Williams AKA Avery from Greys Anatomy pops up. So we’ve got a stacked cast of people they know, and ANYONE could be the murderer!
Without spoiling anything, there’s obviously been a murder and at this stage there’s a tonne of suspects, given how hard they’re working to show what a total douchebag the victim was. Just as the three amigos seem happy at getting to do another podcast, we as viewers get to share that feeling. This is a great, different, show, one that on paper maybe doesn’t work — but each week for 35 mins or so it’s a little slice of TV perfection. The cast is amazing, the acting great, the jokes funny, the plot intriguing and it just look tremendous aswell. When we grow up, we want an apartment like Oliver’s. The Age of Streamers means there’s more content to watch than ever before, but it seems that the gems are getting rarer, so when a new series of a show like this comes up, it’s worth finding some time with the family to sit down and watch it.
Come back soon for more OMITB reviews and speculation! Our early money is on Avery!
